In Winterthur we can only take off when we have westerly winds. This is because of the nearby Kloten airport. With an east wind we will have to drive with the car into the area near Frauenfeld, and then fly in the balloon towards Winterthur. The southern part of Zurich, has, unfortunately, become very difficult for balloonists to fly in, because extended air traffic from the south onto Kloten Airport (south approach).

Owing to our modern technical equipment (transponder) most of the time we receive permission to fly in or across the controlled areas of the Zurich airport.

If we are lucky we may even see an old “Tante Ju” airplane flying around our flight path and landing on Dübendorf airfield.
